*At exactly 9 months, Brooke started crawling on all fours rather than her one-arm army crawl. She gets around pretty quick, and loves to chase follow Kempton around the house. She pulls her self up on everything and is by far more of a trouble/mess maker than her brother ever was. She loves to pull stuff off shelves, get into cabinets, and knock toys out of her way. She is also quite a talker, she loves to babble and imitate sounds that we make. One of her favorite things to do is have a spitting contest and will go back and forth forever with you. B is a good eater and will try just about anything, and is growing so fast. She's about 19 1/2 lbs and 27 1/2" long. She is wearing clothes ranging from 12 months to 2T depending on what it is. Brooke will be catching up to K real soon I'm sure (he's 30 lbs and 36").
*Brooke started swim lessons and we realized how much this girl loves the water. She was the youngest in her class and by far the most comfortable in and under the water. You could dunk her, swim her under the water, and she was able to grab onto the wall and pull herself out with a little bit of help. Now whenever we are swimming she is not satisfied in the least bit (unlike K at that age) to just sit and float around in a raft, she wants to be kicking and splashing and cruising all around the pool!
*Kempton also started his swim class and did awesome. He definitely has a hard time paying attention and sitting still when there's so much going on around him, but over 3 sessions he really picked up a lot. By the end of it he was comfortable putting his face in the water and bobbing up and down, and could even swim a good distance on his own. He has loved spending his summer in the pool with his most favorite buddy, his grandpa Ken. K has more fun with "papa" then with anyone else, and my dad has helped him a ton with swimming. I may just have him teach K's swim lesson next year, since Kempton listens to him more than anyone else.
*A few weeks into the month, K woke up one morning throwing up anything that entered his mouth. He couldn't keep any liquids down so I took him and B, since she had had diarrhea for a few days, to the Dr. to have them checked out. There was nothing to diagnose other than they probably had a flu bug, so she prescribed K an anti-nausea pill to help him get some fluids down so I could hopefully keep them both hydrated. While at Walmart picking up his meds and getting some groceries, I realized I wasn't feeling so sharp. So I cut my trip short and headed to check out. By that time it was too late, so while waiting in line I asked the cashier for her trash can and made a scene right there in the aisle. Needless to say even with the trash can it was messy and way too embarrassing. Luckily I had a really nice and understanding check out lady (who thought I was pregnant) get me out of there as quickly as she could. So me and K spent the rest of the day puking and changing Brooke's leaky diapers. By 10 pm it was over, so random.
*Unfortunately, it wasn't over for Brooke. She still wasn't keeping much in and she hadn't had a wet diaper in a few days, so we were advised to take her to the ER to check for dehydration. Long story short, she wasn't doing well even though she still was active and had a good attitude. They ran a catheter to get a urine culture and couldn't even get two drops out of her bladder. She was transferred to the children's hospital by ambulance (again) and admitted to the children's hospital where we spent the next 3 days. She had an IV in her foot to hydrate her, and after a few nights we were able to go home. I hate the flu bug!
*The end of June was a big one for Curt. He had surgery to repair years of dislocations and injuries to his right shoulder. There was a lot of damage and a lot of work to be done. They had to shorten and reattach the muscle and rebuild the padding in the joint that had been worn away. He had a fracture on the head of his humerus from all the accidents which wasn't able to be repaired, but they cleaned up as much as they could over the course of 3 1/2 hours. The saddest part was watching him try to wake up from the anesthesia. That took another 2 hours before he was conscious enough and sane enough to go home. He was definitely out of it and kept asking the same questions over and over. At one point, he forgot we even had a second child, and then a second later said "Brooke's pudgy", he was all over the place! He's recovering well, but it will be a long time before he has full function in his arm again, and we're not sure how long he has to keep it in the largest brace we've ever seen.
So it was definitely a hectic month for us but now it's nice to be enjoying our lazy, drama free July.
