Table & Chairs Project

When we moved into our new house, we realized that the kitchen table we had was bigger than the small space we had in the kitchen to eat. It doesn't help that we also have two fridges taking up valuable space. We thought if we had a smaller table, we would fit somewhat better. My grandma had an old table that was no longer in use, that is probably older then I am, and in need of some love. So we found some chairs on craigslist and went to work.

These chairs were in good condition but in need of some paint and new upholstery. Seriously, who willingly picked the indian/teepee, material for a chair seat, so scary!

There was lots of sanding to be done, on the chairs and on the table and legs.
A few cans of this
(ok, several cans of this)
So after several hours of spray painting (in hindsight, should have just used a brush and can of paint), a little sanding, glazing for an aged effect, some new fabric, a thousand staples later, and we have new chairs.

p.s. found this great milk chocolate and white damask material for $4.99 a yard but didn't have time to get it. When I went back a few days later the whole stinkin bolt was gone (seriously annoyed). So I ended up getting this lighter color with a grayish blue striping. Looks pretty, but is not holding up to a two year old who refuses to leave the towel on his seat as protection, and spills everything. Should have gotten some clear vinyl too I guess.
And finally painted the table ( I know gasp) a grayish blue color and then also sanded and glazed it. It all turned out pretty well I think.

{snow} day

So a couple weekends ago when we had "one of the worst storms ever", we went up north to play in the snow. Since the usual road was blocked by a mudslide we had to go the much longer, more scenic route through Superior and then around Roosevelt Lake. About 30 minutes outside of Mesa we hit a mini snow storm in Superior. It was crazy to see so much snow considering we weren't that high in the mountains. On top of the snow, when driving through the canyon there were several large waterfalls coming over the side of the cliffs. It was a very adventurous 15 minutes, Kempton thoroughly enjoyed it!

We stayed in Payson and visited with my grandma. Her house was covered in snow as was everything else, it was so deep Kempton and the dogs got lost a few times.

We went sledding down a good size hill for a 2 year old at a local park. Kempton did awesome going down by himself. The last picture is his response to whether or not it was fun. He slumps over and says "yeah" and sighs like he just overexerted himself.

K got into a snowball fight with my mom. He enjoyed throwing them, but when it was his turn to receive, he would assume this position and cringe in anticipation. It was hilarious, he did it every single time.

Later that day when my brother arrived we drove up to the rim to find a bigger hill to sled on. Instead we found some people digging a path down the side of a cliff to sled down. Just to the right of this was a ledge that I swore K was going to slip off.
Despite his expression, Kempton enjoyed sledding, it was just a bit scary cause you never knew if you were going to make it all the way down with out tumbling out of the tube. He made it safely down with dad. Uncle Brian was another story, the got launched off at the end and covered in snow. As the picture shows, K was a little peeved by the cold.

And to prove we were there. Brooke did great, she was just bundled up the whole time, such a trooper. Though we realized that if we placed her in the snow she would probably disappear since she's so pale. It would just be white with these bright blue eyes staring back at you.
It was a fun weekend especially since that was the most snow we've seen in a long time. The kids love the outdoors and do such a good job traveling, it makes it even more fun taking them on these kinds of outings.
